About Charleston Catering Guide

An independent resource for anyone planning catering in Charleston, SC and the Lowcountry.

Charleston Catering Guide is an independent guide and directory built to make one thing easier: planning catering in Charleston, SC. We are not a catering company and we don't cook or staff events. Instead, we research what catering costs in the Lowcountry, explain the service styles and local specialties worth knowing about, and help you find and compare caterers for weddings, corporate events, and private parties.

Why we built this

Hiring a caterer in Charleston can be surprisingly opaque. Prices are quoted per guest but rarely published, national directories tend to gloss over the things that make Lowcountry catering distinct — oyster roasts, Lowcountry boils, shrimp and grits — and it's hard to know what a fair quote even looks like until you've collected several. We started this guide to put clear, local, honest information in one place, so you can walk into conversations with caterers already knowing the ranges, the right questions, and the options that fit your event.

What we do, and what we don't

What we do

  • Research and publish Charleston catering cost ranges
  • Write plain-English planning guides by event type
  • Maintain a curated directory of local caterers
  • Help you request and compare quotes for free

What we don't

  • Cater, cook, or staff events ourselves
  • Take a commission on what you book
  • Let paid placement change our guidance
  • Publish fabricated reviews or fake deals

How we stay independent

Our guides and cost estimates are written independently of any caterer. The directory has two kinds of listings, and we keep the line between them clear:

  • Basic listings are free and organized by event type and service style, so the directory stays genuinely useful and comprehensive.
  • Featured listings are paid placements. They are always labeled as featured and appear at the top of a category — but paying for placement never changes the advice, cost ranges, or comparisons we publish.

This site is reader-supported. We may earn revenue from featured listings and from advertising that appears on our pages. When ads run, they're identifiable as ads. None of it influences our editorial content.

Put simply: a caterer can pay to be seen more prominently, but cannot pay to be recommended. Our job is to be useful to the person planning the event first.

How we research costs

The price ranges we publish are drawn from current catering market data and provider information, and we present them as planning estimates — not quotes. Actual pricing in Charleston depends on your date, venue, headcount, and menu, which is why we always encourage gathering real quotes before budgeting. We date our pages and update them as the market changes.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to keep this guide accurate and current, but markets move and details change. If you spot something that's out of date or incorrect — or if you're a Charleston caterer who'd like to correct or claim a listing — we want to hear about it. Reach us through our contact page and we'll review it.
